Blessed is the one who thinks on the poor and needy.

Our Mission

MESSENGERS OF HOPE is organized for the purposes of providing relief to the poor, specifically orphans and widows, by providing education for the underprivileged children in Latin America, due to chronic unemployment and underemployment.  These children and their families have a hope of building a life in their own country, which may deter illegal immigration from Latin America to the United States of America.

Our Goal

We believe every child deserves an education regardless of demographics. According to the World Bank, in Guatemala indigenous children are three times as likely to live in extreme poverty and their parents earn less money than the non-indigenous population. Our goal is to provide these undeserved children an education to be future ready. Many have been denied an education for years due to lack of resources, violence, abuse, or circumstantial displacement, or forced labor. Messengers of Hope is committed to provide the foundational blocks for the education of these children by providing to all sponsored students a daily breakfast; beans, eggs, tortilla, and a cup of hot cereal with milk. Also, they receive every year new shoes, new backpack with school supplies, and corporate mentorship to instill in them dreams, ideas, and hope. The school principal has stated that “these interventions have increased daily attendance and improved academic achievement” among the children sponsored.

Our Story

In 2004 we lost a good friend in Guatemala, where we are from. He left behind his wife, son, and a young daughter. We felt lead to help his widow and children with food and education. Years later, we had the awesome experience to see her graduating from high school, attending college and working at a stable and good paying job; able to self sustain and support mom and to dream to settle one day at her own place moving forward into a promising future. This experience motivated us to do the same for other widows and underserved children we have encountered along the way.

A couple of years after this experience, we heard of a family that had lost their father. The mother was a waitress and raising three children. She asked her brother if she could come and live with him, because she could not afford to pay the rent for a house. He was already living with another sibling because they also could not afford to pay rent for the home either. When we visited this family to make sure we were dealing with a real need, we found out that three families lived together in a small, three bedroom shanty house (under 700 sq. ft. area). The maternal grandmother also lives with them, for a total of 11 children and 6 adults. Our hearts sunk. We could only take care of a family, but not all of them. However, we walked the extra mile and by faith we ended up adopting all 11 children and supported them with their education. We now have five high school graduates and enrolled in college (self-support), and eight children from 2nd-9th grade successfully completing their school year. We thank God for all his guidance and support in all areas so we can provide for these families.
